I am sure you have noticed my recent blog neglect – hello photography busy season! The past two months I have been in Iowa, Minnesota and, of course, Colorado photographing tons of portrait sessions and beautiful weddings. I am finally catching up on editing and retouching orders so now it’s time to get back in the swing of things with the blog and maybe even update my website a little bit.
Since September seems to be wedding month for me (I have 7, count ’em SEVEN weddings!) I thought why not kick off the blog update with a post from Jayne & Mike’s beautiful wedding in Colorado Springs, CO.
When Jayne and Mike got engaged and started planning their wedding, they decided they wanted the ceremony to be held in their new home of Colorado Springs. Afterall, most of their guests would be traveling from out of state even if they got married “back home” (she’s from North Dakota, he’s from Pennsylvania) and this way they could share their love of Colorado with everyone.
When planning their wedding, the couple made some smart, economical choices. Knowing that they would be having receptions in their respective hometowns after the wedding, they decided to go with silk flowers instead of real ones. This way they could use the same arrangements there as well. They also wanted to choose a venue that could be both ceremony and reception sites to help minimize travel for their out of town guests. The Sunbird Mountain Grill fit the bill with a great patio space for the ceremony and reception that had an amazing view over the city and the mountains. Even if it did rain a little bit on their wedding day, moving the dinner inside, it cleared up just in time to dance under the stars!
Like all weddings – it’s all about the personalize details! Jayne’s veil was her “something borrowed” which was the same veil worn my her sister on her wedding day. The veil and the ribbon belt that Jayne wore incorporated lace by Vera Wang and were gifts from a family friend who is a seamstress. The bride’s bouquet was adorned with beautiful antique broaches that belonged to her grandmothers. Mike also wore a little personalized detail on the big day – silver boxing glove cufflinks that were a wedding gift from one of his friends as a nod to his amateur boxing days.
A big thank you to Jayne and Mike for letting me capture you amazing wedding day! And thank you to Ashley for helping out that day.
