Not all weddings need lots of elaborate details, some just need classic lines and a pop of color! For example, take Jocelyn & Kyle’s wedding that I photographed this past summer. Their color palette was simple but had a lot of impact: black and white with pops of red. Jocelyn’s bright red rose bouquet was absolutely gorgeous (with a little modern bling around the stems) and matched Kyle’s boutonniere perfectly. Their wedding programs were single page with an elegant script font and a red ribbon accent. They also brought in modern touches too with a typographical cake topper and Jocelyn’s something blue was worn on her feet 🙂
We started the day at the ceremony site, the Ankeny First United Methodist Church. Once Jocelyn had gotten dressed in her beautiful detailed gown (with the help from her bridesmaids of course!) a special surprise had arrived from her thoughtful groom. After reading the handwritten note, Jocelyn opened her gift to find a sparkling diamond solitaire necklace. The diamond was given to Kyle’s mother from his father on the day they welcomed him into the world. Such a touching moment, especially when Kyle’s mom took the honors to put it on the bride.
Jocelyn had also put a lot of thought into her gift for Kyle. She had picked out the perfect watch and had it engraved with a personal message on the back. I love it when couples give meaningful gifts to each other before the first look. It really creates some great emotional moments between the couple when they see each other for the first time.
I had a blast photographing this beautiful wedding day. The couple was laid back and relaxed, the photo locations were gorgeous and the wedding party was so much fun to hang out with. Thank you Jocelyn & Kyle for allowing me to be a part of your special day!
