Katie and I used to be in the same 4-H Club when we were growing up, so I was deeply honored when she contacted me about photographing her early fall wedding back in Iowa.
Both growing up in the same hometown, Katie and Brent have known each other for some time. On July 6, 2013 Brent took Katie out to her parent’s farm, right to her favorite spot in the pasture where you can see for miles and miles. He got down on one knee and asked her to spend the rest of her life with him. And of course she said yes!
When we started planning their engagement session last winter, the one thing Katie and Brent really wanted to do was outdoor photos. Something kind of casual, where they could relax and just be themselves. The other priority was to get images for their Save the Dates, so we needed to do the session sooner rather than later.
Winter in Iowa can be tricky with bitterly cold temps but we gave it a try and scheduled their engagement session during my February trip back to Iowa. And of course, the day of their session it was brutally cold out! We did a few photos in the studio and then bundled up and ran outside for a few images in the snow for the Save the Dates.
Even though it was frigid out, I could tell Katie and Brent were much more relaxed in the outdoor environment, but the cold temps really limited the amount of time we could be outside. So we decided to set up a time for more outdoor photos during my next trip home, when it would be much warmer.
The weather for the second session was definitely much better. It was slightly overcast but at least we didn’t have to wear multiple layers and deal with red noses! We headed out to Lake Cornelia and I photographed them in a beautiful open space – I love how the area mimicked a pasture, the location of the proposal.
I had so much fun photographing this laid back, fun loving couple. As you can see there were lots of laughter during their engagement session and I know their wedding day is going to be the same way! I can’t wait!
It was fun to revisit their pics. They are a fun couple. Anxious for next weekend!!
Thanks for commenting Roberta! I am really looking forward to their day as well! It’s going to be beautiful. See you next week!
