You visit a wedding dress salon (or 5), try on what seem like hundreds of dresses, searching for the perfect one. Then you find it! Your dream gown that makes you feel amazing and you can’t wait for your future husband to see you in. Now comes the fun part of accessorizing your gown to create a custom bridal style that’s all your own. It’s amazing how just adding something so small can change the entire look of your dress.
Most bridal salons have whole sections of accessories – from veils and hair pieces, to belts and jewelry – and while those pieces are gorgeous and often times handmade works of art, they can get a bit pricey and don’t always fit in your budget. Enter in the world of DIY accessories! DIY-ing your accessories is super simple, doesn’t take an army or million hours of time like some projects, so this is definitely something I can get behind! Here’s a couple different ideas on how you can personalize your look without breaking your budget. All of these looks were made from supplies found at Fleuriste Craft Supply.
Simplistic Elegance
This wedding dress had a very elegant silhouette with little details like a cutout back and buttons all the way down the train. It doesn’t need much in the way of accessories so we styled her with a custom bracelet made out of a triple jewel connector and a length of glitter elastic and a simple hair piece made out of a silver hair comb, a beaded bridal applique and a length of Russian veiling.
Modern Chic
When you have a very simple dress like this a-line design, is like a blank canvas with so many options for customization. For this bridal style look, we styled the bride with a length of beaded trim to create a belt and a sleek head piece made from 3 art deco buttons glued onto a length of glitter elastic.
Hollywood Glam
For this look we took the same ballgown dress and styled it two different ways, using the exact same accessory – a beaded bridal wrap made out of a length of 2.25″ wide lace and a beaded bridal applique. In the first look we took the beaded wrap and used it as a belt for a little sparkle around the bride’s waistline. In the second look we styled it as a head piece, wrapping the extra length of lace into her messy updo for a modern, glam look. Same dress, same accessory and two completely different looks!
